Nepal Trekking Season - Best Time to Trek in Nepal 2017

Nepal best Trekking Season

Trekking to Nepal can be done throughout the year at any time. However there are four main seasons in Nepal with the different weather and climate that delivers different looks to landscape, environment and your trekking experience. If you are looking for the trekking and thinking of the best time to visit Nepal, we recommend you to trek during the Autumn and Spring season which are considered as the peak seasons. The first peak season of the year is between late february to May and second peak season of the year is between mid september to late November. The other seasons includes Winter (December to February) and Summer/Monsoon (June to Early August).

Autumn (September-November)
Trekking from September to November is considered as the peak time with the excellent weather and mountain views. The temperature is moderate so that you can have good experience of hiking the mountains and the sky is clear enough for spectacular views. During these months, the Nepalese greatest festivals like Teej, Dashain and Tihar falls which adds your trip with festive mood and you will have opportunity to take part in the celebration.

Winter (December-February)
Trekking during winter season is considered to be off but you can trek to low altitude hiking destinations. Generally, the days are clear during winter in Nepal. There is risk of chilling winds in higher elevations so better for hike in low altitude with the good trekking gears.

Spring (March-May)
The second busiest time of trekking in Nepal is Spring season from March to May as trekking and expeditions during these months are considered to be best. With the varieties of wild flora (Rhododendron) blossoming in the hilly area makes your trekking holiday interesting and exciting. The weather is warm in lower elevations and quite moderate in higher elevations above 4000m.

Monsoon (June-August)
Monsoon or summer is not so recommended time for trekking to Himalayas. But there are special rain-shadow areas which are most popular during the rainy season; Dolpo Region, Mustang Region and Nar Phu Valley Trekking are best for hiking during monsoon season. Due to the heavy rainfall (Sometimes), slippery trekking path and risk of liches, hiking is not favorable during this time. But you will have opportunity to take part in Nepalese unique Rice Planting Festival (Ashad/Asar 15) which is the day for cultivating paddy for the whole year. During the festival, people are busy on their fields planting paddy, singing, dancing, playing with mud and there will be a special feast called Dahi Chiura (Curd and Beaten Rice). For the agro tourism point of view, Monsoon season is the best time and you can also volunteer or donate to the villagers who have been affected by the flood, landslide or soil erosion.
